Cuba Missouri

Indie rock caught between sound storms, acoustic collages and three-minute pop. Or the other way round.

cuba missouri began in April 2000 in Münster, Germany. The band’s name – a synonym for the dreary province and thus an ironic homage to the three protagonist’s “hinterland” roots – is taken from an American backwater. And like its name, the band is a juxtaposition of apparent opposites: singer/songwriter elements rub shoulders with aural assaults, the whole seasoned with a pinch of electronica and “classic” indie rock. Short, compact tracks and stirring soundscapes. Madness and moving melodies. The results are usually unusual in structure, often melancholy, at times aggressive songs full of warmth and soul.
